Tube Beveling Tools &
Fabrication Machines
Portable tube beveling tools for precise, repeatable weld prep in tight spaces and critical applications. Rugged, robust, and reliable since 1954.
Precise Weld Prep Where It Matters Most
Esco MILLHOG® tube beveling tools are designed for small- to mid-diameter tube where accuracy, access, and speed matter. They are used in boilers, heat exchangers, sanitary systems, fabrication shops, and high-purity installations where grinding is not acceptable.
Types of Tube Beveling Tools
ID Clamping Tube Beveling Tools
I.D. clamping tube bevelers mount inside the tube and self-center for rigid, chatter-free cutting.
- Boiler tubes and heat exchanger tubes
- Tight tube pitch in waterwalls and bundles
- Bevel, face, and bore operations in one setup
- Accurate, repeatable weld preps
- No damage to tube O.D.
- Excellent performance in tight spaces
OD Clamping Tube Beveling Tools
OD clamping bevelers mount on the outside of the tube. Ideal when internal clamping is not possible.
- Thin-wall tube
- Tubes with internal obstructions or coatings
- Situations where internal clamping is not possible
- Fast setup on accessible tube ends
- Consistent bevel geometry on light-wall materials
High-Speed Tube Beveling Tools
High-speed bevelers are designed for rapid prep on small-diameter tube.
- Fabrication shops
- Sanitary and high-purity tubing
- High-volume, repetitive tube prep
- Very fast cycle times
- Lightweight and easy to maneuver
- Ideal replacement for hand grinding
How to Select the Right
Tube Beveling Tool
Define Your Tube & Weld Prep
Start with tube data to drive tool and cutter selection.
- Tube O.D. and wall thickness
- Tube material such as carbon steel, stainless, or alloy
- Required weld prep: bevel, face, bore, or J-prep
Match Material & Application
Access and tube pitch often determine the tool style.
- Confirm clearance between adjacent tubes
- Decide if I.D. or O.D. clamping is possible
- Consider working position: horizontal, vertical, or overhead
Select Drive, Cutters & Accessories
The right setup improves productivity and tool life.
- Pneumatic, electric, or battery drive options
- Cutters matched to material and bevel geometry
- Mandrels, rounding pads, and specialty accessories as needed
Decide Whether to Rent or Own
Esco supports both rental and purchase options.
- Rent for outages, shutdowns, and short-term projects
- Purchase for ongoing maintenance or fabrication work
- Scale tool quantities based on crew size and schedule

What Are Tube Beveling Tools?
Tube beveling tools are portable machines that cut an angled edge on the end of a tube to prepare it for welding. Unlike hand grinding, they:
- Self-center for accuracy
- Produce consistent bevel angles
- Reduce fit-up time and rework
- Improve weld penetration and joint quality
Frequently Asked Questions
Tube beveling tools are designed for smaller diameters and tighter access than pipe bevelers. They are commonly used in boilers, heat exchangers, and tube bundles.
Yes. Many Esco tube bevelers can bevel, face, and bore simultaneously to reduce setup time and improve consistency.
Yes. With the correct cutters, Esco tools work on carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and high-alloy tube.
Yes. Esco offers rental options for tube beveling tools, ideal for outages, shutdowns, and short-term projects.
Engineering the First Portable Pipe & Tube Beveling Machines
The ESCO Tool Company was founded in 1954 and developed the first portable beveling machines for tube and pipe fabrication. After early success on the Trident Nuclear Submarine project, this equipment rapidly became the most popular way to bevel high pressure tube and pipe on-site.
Although earlier models clamped on the outside diameter, ESCO developed the first narrow body inside diameter clamping machines, starting in the 1970s, to satisfy the needs of the boiler industry. Seeing how high the demand was for portable fabrication tools, the “Mini” and “Wart” were born, starting the most prestigious line of beveling equipment known to the industry: MILLHOG.
ESCO Tool now has a line of over 23 field-proven products that are used all over the world in power generation plants, pulp and paper plants, refineries, fabrication facilities, public work systems, and other metalworking industries.
